An artist we've been admiring for a while and a respected presence in South London's underground scene, Alpha Maid shares news of their debut album alongside its characteristically dissonant lead track 'On Smoke'. Grungey, modern and lo-fi, 'On Smoke' centres around a hypnotic electric guitar sequence punctuated by surreal atmospherics. Processing their vocals with autotune and various other plugins, the mood is heavy and immersive, encouraging listeners to lose themselves in the delightfully disorientating piece. Taking a darker turn two thirds of the way through, with dirtier guitar and a menacing underbelly of beats, the chords eventually shift into something more sinister as synthetic drums carry 'On Smoke' to an open-ended close. Accompanied by a strikingly unpretentious video by Finnbar Porteous, 'On Smoke' is out now via AD 93, with the rest of the album Is this a queue arriving on the 29th of October. -Holly Mullineaux
